STUDY PROGRAM'S HISTORY
The Geography Bachelor’s Degree Program was previously the Geography Department of Sebelas Maret University (UNS). Since the merger of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education into one faculty, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education was established after the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 5 of 1976 and began accepting students in 1976. Then, the Department of Social Sciences Education was established after the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 0555/O/1983 dated December 8, 1983, concerning the determination of the types and number of departments in each faculty within UNS. After that, the Department of Geography underwent a change in status and name to become the Bachelor of Geography Education Study Program within the Department of PIPS based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 39/DIKTI/Kep/1984 dated December 28, 1984. Furthermore, this was reinforced by the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 222/DIKTI/Kep/1996 dated July 11, 1966, concerning the Establishment of 16 Study Programs within the FKIP UNS.
Subsequently, changes were made to the organization and work structure of UNS based on Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 84 of 2014 to eliminate departments. On this basis, the Bachelor of Geography Education Study Program is no longer part of the PIPS Department but is directly under the management of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at UNS to this day. The Bachelor of Geography Education Study Program received an Excellent accreditation based on LAMDIK Decree No. 648/SK/LAMDIK/Ak/S/VI/, which is valid from April 10, 2024, to April 9, 2029. Based on UNS Rector’s Decree No. 1334/UN27/HK/2024, Geography Education is led by Dr. Pipit Wijayanti, S.Si., M.Sc. as the head of the study program.
